1. What is JEE Mains?
National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts Joint Entrance Examination (Main), also known as JEE Main, for admission to BTech, BArch, and BPlan courses in National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology To shortlist the candidates. IIITs), Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs), and other top engineering institutes of India.
The exam is conducted in two sessions and candidates can appear for the exam either in January or April. Candidates can further opt to appear for one exam or both the exams. The exam conducting authority will consider the better of the two NTA scores in preparing the rank/merit list.
However, when I first heard about JEE Main, I was apprehensive. I was not able to understand what to prepare and where to start. 2. Overview of JEE Mains
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in India. It's an eligibility test for students who want to pursue engineering or architecture undergraduate courses in Indian institutes of higher education.
- The JEE Main exam has two papers: Paper 1 is for engineering courses and Paper 2 is for architecture courses. Both papers are of three hours duration and are conducted in both Hindi and English languages.
- The JEE Main exam is divided into three parts: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Each part carries equal weightage and the marks scored in this exam are used to determine the eligibility for the JEE Advanced exam.
3. Eligibility Criteria & Qualifying Marks
In order to appear for JEE Main, you need to be an Indian citizen and have passed class XII or equivalent examination from a recognized board. You also have to meet the age criteria.
As far as the qualifying marks are concerned, you need to score at least 75% marks in aggregate or get a rank in the top 20% in your board exam. So, chances are that if you've scored above 90% marks, you'll be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.

4. Types of JEE Mains Exams
There are three types of JEE Mains exams:
- JEE Main Paper 1: This is an objective exam that tests your knowledge of physics, chemistry and mathematics.
- JEE Main Paper 2: This is a subjective exam that tests your understanding of these subjects.
- JEE Main Combined Exam: This is a mix of Paper 1 and Paper 2 and is conducted only in offline mode.

5. Registration Process & Exam Centers
You can register for JEE Mains online via the official website of the Joint Entrance Examination. Make sure to fill out all the necessary fields in the application form, and be mindful of deadlines. Once your registration is done, you'll then have to book your selected test date and exam center.
The exam centers are located all over India, so make sure that you choose one that’s convenient for you. You will receive an admit card a few days before appearing for the exam – make sure that you bring it with you on the day of the exam. There are also certain documents that are required at the exam center – make sure to read up on this beforehand so that you're prepared!
6. Exam Pattern & Syllabus Topics
JEE mains is a computer-based exam of mathematics, physics, and chemistry. It consists of two papers for admission to undergraduate engineering programs - Paper 1 for B.E/B.Tech and Paper 2 for B.Arch/B.Planning admissions.
The JEE Main paper has questions from three main topics - Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The questions are multiple choice and numerical type. Each paper has three sections - Section A for Mathematics, Section B for Physics and Section C for Chemistry. The exam duration is 3 hours in each paper but an extra hour is allowed for candidates with benchmark disabilities as PwD category.
The syllabus topics include the following: Mathematics covers Algebra, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus and Integral Calculus; Physics covers Units & Dimensions, Motion in One Dimensions & Two Dimensions, Rotational Motion, Gravitation and Laws of Motion; Chemistry includes Basic Concepts of Chemistry like Atomic Structure and Chemical Bonding and Physical Chemistry like States of Matter and Solutions.
7. What is a good daily time table for the JEE Mains?
(I am assuming you have just passed 10th, about join coaching and your school timmings are 7:30 to 2:00)
Divide your day into 6 parts:
- Sleep (4–6 hours)
- Exercise(half-one hour)
- School (3–4 times a weak for 7 hours daily)
- Coaching (4–5 times a weak for 3–4 hours daily)
- Self study (maximum possible)
- Food, break and buckchodi (2–3 hours)
Depending on the fact that you are morning person or night person adjust these 6 things as per your convenience. (But you should be consistent especially with sleep)
Best timming to sleep so that you can get most of the day are
- 10pm to 3–4am
- 2–3am to 7am
- My schedule
- Sleep: 11pm to 3am
- Exercise:
- 3:15–3:30am: 10 pushups, 10 uthakbaithak, 10 minutes murga (helps memory allot, search superbrain yoga)
- 3:30–3:45 am: jogging
- 3:45–4:15am: brush, shower, protien shake, take 5 almonds and other stuff)
- 4:15am to 7–7:30 am: study (ussualy do inorganic chemistry, study formulaes, or other stuff which requires to understand concepts or requires memorising)
- Have breakfast
School: i used to go to school only 3–4 times a weak. In school, I used to solve study packages or read NCERT instead o wasting my time with useless school teachers (yes “useless”, most of the school teachers does not know much about physics, chemistry or maths)
When not going to school, you get 6 hours extra. I used them to make a seprate notebook for all three subjects where I used to write all the important concepts, topics and some pointers for quick revision (just short notes, not detailed one)
Coaching: on coaching days make proper notes their and try to understand maximum topics there only.
- On non-coaching days, solve problems from good books like IE irodov, cengage(not coaching material)
- Self study: make 3–4 slots of self study each day on regular basis
- My one slot was in the morning (4:15–7:30) this slot is ussualy for memorising stuff or the stuff where I have to understand concepts
- Another slot was after school (3–4 or 2–3, depending on my mood) in this slot I revise my coaching notes
- My last slot was just before sleep (8:45–10:45) in this slot I do maximum numericals possible (ussualy around 100 mixed all trio)
